Director’s Statement
“I was compelled to try to cinematically capture these men and their community when I met them many years ago. I witnessed their bravery, their reverence for nature and the incredible bounty their efforts brought to their fellow islanders. They represented a balance with nature that was at once inspiring and ironic. Filming began in 1989, continuing for five seasons. In 2009 I re-opened the project, returning to the island three times, and concluded photography (utilizing digital image capture) in 2011. I completed editing in 2012.
It is a film about perseverance, tradition and identity. “The Wind That Blows” is my labor of love.”
